RIOT Games I Mercedes-Benz

Title: Worlds Trophy Ceremony

Employer: The Mill

Role: CG Artist I FX Artist

A high-profile collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Riot Games for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship ("Worlds") Finals. The FX served as the primary stylistic anchor, defining the atmospheric mood and visual climax of the global campaign.

Key Contributions

  • Aesthetic Leadership: Established the visual direction of core FX elements—including lightning beams, smoke, and debris—from the previs stage through final delivery.

  • Creative Collaboration: Partnered closely with previs artists to ensure the motion and silhouette of the effects drove the narrative tone of the advertisement from the earliest stages of production.

  • Iterative Look Development: Managed the complex process of aligning director and client visions through rigorous refinement of lightning shapes, beam trajectories, and procedural noise patterns.

  • Technical Execution: Developed the signature "highlight" look of the film, transforming technical simulations into a core design language that resonated with the high-energy nature of the global broadcast.

  • Strategic Problem Solving: Successfully navigated multiple rounds of client feedback to finalize an FX aesthetic that met the premium branding standards of Mercedes-Benz and the cinematic energy of Riot Games.

Infosys

Title: Champions Evolve 3D Billboard

Employer: The Mill

Role: CG Artist / FX Artist

A large-scale, anamorphic 3D billboard campaign for Infosys, prominently displayed in New York’s Times Square. Featuring global tennis icon Rafael Nadal, the advertisement utilizes forced perspective to bring high-impact environmental storytelling to one of the world's most iconic digital stages.

The Four Elements of Performance The campaign is structured around four distinct atmospheric stages, each challenging the digital subject with extreme weather conditions:

  • Wind: High-velocity particulate and cloth simulations reacting to the force of a championship-level serve.

  • Rain & Snow: Complex fluid dynamics and frozen precipitation that emphasize the grit and endurance of the athlete.

  • Heat: Intense thermal distortion and shimmering haze effects created to visualize the physical toll of extreme temperatures.

  • Overcast & Fog: Volumetric density and low-visibility atmospheric simulations that highlight precision and focus.

Strategic Perspective Executed during the global emergence of anamorphic "3D" billboard technology, this project marked a pivotal entry into large-scale experiential advertising. The primary technical objective involved the seamless integration of live-action cinematography with high-fidelity CG elements, specifically engineered for the massive scale and unique curvature of New York’s Times Square digital displays.

Technical Execution & Innovation

  • Perspective Engineering: Utilized Nuke to mathematically reconstruct real-world camera positions, followed by rigorous projection mapping tests against specific billboard surface geometry. This process minimized anamorphic distortion and maximized the "breaking the fourth wall" stereoscopic effect for the live audience.

  • Environmental Simulation (Lead): Served as the primary architect for the Wind Stage, developing high-velocity simulations that reacted dynamically to the athlete's performance.

  • Collaborative FX Development: Contributed specialized FX work across the Rain, Heat, and Fog stages, ensuring a consistent visual language and technical stability across the entire multi-environmental cycle.

  • Spatial Accuracy: Achieved a visually convincing sense of depth through iterative spatial calibration, ensuring the CG-to-live-action transition remained flawless at a monumental scale.
